ArtFuture NYC is a resource that makes visual art and design careers a reality for NYC youth.
Art Future NYC aims to expand access for underrepresented NYC students to tools, resources and information which increase understanding of art & design career and educational opportunities. We recognize the brilliance of communities who are historically underrepresented and underrecognized in fields of art & design (people of color, people from low-income backgrounds, first generation college students, immigrants, etc), and are committed to bridging the gap to college and career resources.
Community partners include Ashcan Studio of Art, Joan Mitchell Foundation, Parsons Precollege Programs, and Parsons Scholars Program.
In Spring 2016, ArtFutureNYC hosted an event called Creative Careers which aimed to provide an opportunity for students from underrepresented backgrounds at The New School to gain advice and build communities that ease the transition into creative careers. Guest speakers shared insights, tips and resources that are relevant and crucial to the success of our students.
This event provides an opportunity to learn about current art & design portfolio requirements from a range of local college representatives. We engage in a dialogue around how to best prepare our students, particularly when faced with limited access to higher education.
Career in the Arts Fair
The Careers in the Arts Fair aims to expose educational and professional opportunities within the visual artsand design to high school students. We aim to provide access to professionals in different points of their careers who can share insight on their success while being sensitive to challenges often faced by first generation college students from low-income backgrounds, students of color and students of varying immigration statuses.
